{Guest Post & Author Spotlight} Sabrina Ramoth

For my last post of my 3-Year Blogiversary Celebration I'm spotlighting YA Author, SABRINA RAMOTH! So let's dive right in...

Hi all! My name is Sabrina Ramoth, and I am the author of the Bruel Witch Series, which I will be telling you about in just a few minutes, but first I wanted to say thank you Taylor for having me over on her blog.

The Bruel Witch Series is a three (maybe 4) book series that follows the story of Vivienne Davenport as she discovers that she's a witch and is at the very center of a curse that has plagued her family for generations.

In the first book, The Curse of the Bruel Coven, Vivienne discovers that not only is she adopted but she is also a witch and she must learn to control her powers to save her birth mom from a Coven of Witches that wants to see the Curse on Vivi's family come to pass.

There is really so much more to the story than that but I don't want to give anything away. So I will tell you how I got the idea for this series. As I mention in my answers below, my best friend convinced me to read this book called Twilight, and it ruined my life in all the best ways LOL

See, after reading Twilight, I couldn't get enough of paranormal YA and started binge reading anything else I could find. Then one day while driving my oldest daughter to a birthday party, I got this totally random idea about a man and a woman who were in love but separated by a curse. I remember sitting at a traffic light as I jotted the idea down on a piece of scrap paper I had found on the floor of my car. I didn't immediately start writing it either because up until that day, I had never written a book before so I wasn't even sure it was something I could do but the story kept nagging at me until I eventually got to the point I had to write it. The story has evolved much from the simple idea I jot down on the scrap paper that day, but the core of it is still there in Lizette and Oliver's Story.

Q&A with Sabrina...

1. Who is your favorite character in this book?
My favorite character in this book. Wow that's hard. So hard. That's like picking a favorite among my own kids. And now I sound crazy... LOL But if I HAD to pick just one.... ehhhhh I guess I might have to say Desmond. I just love his character. He's honorable and easy going and he is so easy to write because for some reason while writing him, he just takes over.

2. Which came first, the title or the novel?
Oh the novel for sure. In fact I had several working titles before officially titling the book.

3. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
There is a fight scene I think in chapter 18 or 19 that I am especially proud of. I think that scene stands out to me because it was the hardest for me to write... What can I say, I am not a fighter LOL In the early drafts there was simply a placeholder note that said *FIGHT SCENE GOES HERE* and every time I came back to that scene in the drafting process I just couldn't write it. When it came time to write my final draft I remember giving it one last try and still it just wasn't working. Nothing I came up with felt right so I scrapped the whole fight scene and found some alternate way of working out the climax of the book that did not include a fight between the two covens. I then submitted the book to my editor for final edits and the book was done. Or so I thought. Then one night while I was doing my final pass and approving the edits my editor sent me, something clicked and I rewrote that entire chapter to include the battle scene that is in the final version of the book. And had to send my editor an apology for giving her more work to do before we could send the book off to publication.

4. What upcoming book release are you most looking forward to?
Hmmm. Well I am exciting about the Rite to Reign Box Set that I am part of. It has been an amazing experience collaborating with other authors and I've been learning a lot about marketing. We are also aiming to hit the USA Today's Best Seller list which is super exciting because should we reach our goal, it will be my first time making that list. I am also excited about, The Curse of the Voodoo Bones, which is the sequel to The Curse of the Bruel Coven. I know people have been waiting a long time for that so I am really looking forward to getting that out to my readers as soon as possible. Plus, it's been a lot of fun writing this story, since Vivi is much more settled into the world of magic.

5. What is your most recent favorite read?
Recent reads. Well this is embarrassing but I haven't gotten much time to read recently since I am behind the wire on deadlines, but I have the new CoHo (Colleen Hoover for those that do not know) on my night stand waiting for me to get sucked in.

6. What are you working on now?
Well as I mentioned above I'm working on The Curse of the Voodoo Bones and Rite to Reign. My contribution to Rite to Reign is in the Bruel World and follows a young Delphine as she rises to power. I am also working on an entirely new series, called the Huntress Saga. I am about 40% through my first draft on the first book, City of Smoke. So as you can see I've got a lot going on.

7. What authors, or books, have influenced you?
Well I guess if you could tale a look at my bookshelf that would be the easiest way to answer that question. I've got lots of Kami Garcia, P.C. Cast, L.J. Smith, Lauren Kate, Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris. But if I had to say what books were the most influence, I would have to say Stephenie Meyer Twilight Saga. I had been a while since I had read any paranormal or witchy books and my best friend convinced me finally after months and months of begging to read this book called Twilight. After reading it my love for all things paranormal were reborn and I couldn't get enough, which eventually lead into my idea for The Bruel Witch Series.

8.What is your favorite part of the writing process?
NOLA research trips? LOL No but really... I love researching for a novel. Especially when it means going somewhere and seeing the world inside my head come alive in some way. Plus I am all about the Beignets so any reason to go to New Orleans is my favorite thing!

For a limited time, you can get The Curse of the Bruel Coven for just $0.99 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Curse-Bruel-Coven-Witch-Book-ebook/dp/B01F3X3J8S

Madeline has a strong love for anything dystopian, ghostly, or paranormal, and she can frequently be found exploring wild places. At least one notebook is known to follow her wherever she goes.
The book Madeline is showcasing in this seaon's YA Scavenger Hunt is book 1 of the Untamed Series,

UNTAMED

About the Book
**2017 SIBA Award Winner for Best Dystopian Novel**

In a world where addiction is encouraged, one girl must fight to stay clean...

As one of the last Untamed humans left in the world, Seven's life has always been controlled by tight rules. Stay away from the Enhanced. Don't question your leader. And, most importantly, never switch sides--because once you're Enhanced there's no going back. Even if you have become the perfect human being.

But after a disastrous raid on an Enhanced city, Seven soon finds herself in her enemy's power. Realizing it's only a matter of time before she too develops a taste for the chemical augmenters responsible for the erosion of humanity, Seven knows she must act quickly if she's to escape and save her family from the same fate.

Yet, as one of the most powerful Seers that the Untamed and Enhanced have ever known, Seven quickly discovers that she alone holds the key to the survival of only one race. But things aren't clear-cut anymore, and with Seven now questioning the very beliefs she was raised on, she knows she has an important choice to make. One that has two very different outcomes.

Seven must choose wisely whose side she joins, for the War of Humanity is underway, and Death never takes kindly to traitors.

"A fantastic dystopian tale. Highly recommended for fans of strong heroines and intriguing sci-fi worlds." Pintip Dunn, New York Times bestselling author of the Forget Tomorrow Series

EXCLUSIVE BONUS MATERIAL COMING RIGHT UP!

In my Untamed series, Three Sarr, the brother of my main character, is one of my favorite characters to write. He’s fiercely protective of his family, loyal, and intelligent, and I thought I’d share a little more about him for the YA Scavenger Hunt. And, so, here are the surviving extracts from his journal!

The Surviving Extracts from the Journal of Three Sarr

EXTRACT ONE

Went on a raid this morning. Stole this journal.

Rahn will be furious if he finds out. He’s always saying we shouldn’t write stuff down, that leaving a paper trail will lead them to us.

Going to use this book though for notes and thoughts. Untamed stuff and all that. Will also help to have an actual place to keep my diagrams and instructions for making the radios! I’m sure Rahn was taking them before—my notes kept going missing and he’d just say that I shouldn’t need to write them down in the first place.

Pity I couldn’t choose the cover for this notebook though. Flowers was all they had. Can’t be picky when you’re raiding.

Ah, just remembered we forgot to look for insect repellent on the raid. Marouska’s not going to be happy.

Get next time:
-          insect repellent
-          wire
-          another pen
-          safety pins
-          razor blade

EXTRACT TWO

I beat Finn at a fight today! First time that’s happened. Was kind of satisfying too.

Other stuff:
-          We’re low on wire still. Rahn says we’ll get some more in the next raid. We were going to go last week, but there were many Turnings in a row and Mum thought it was too risky.
-          Corin’s got toothache. His complaints are driving me mad.
-          my new circuit board still isn’t working. The new radio’s proving tricky too. Not to mention reception isn’t good here. Need to do some more designs on it.
-          Esther got stung by an unknown insect. Her arm’s swelling up.

EXTRACT THREE

Dad asked me what I thought it meant to be Untamed earlier. Got me thinking. Thought I’d write some notes.

So, what is it to be Untamed?

-          it’s to be free
-          To be yourself—and not what they want you to be.
-          To be living out in the wild
-          To be hunted down
-          To be free of addiction
-          Having family
-          Being happy. Properly happy—not their artificial idea of it.
-          It’s being human. Having humanity.

EXTRACT FOUR

Esther’s arm seems to be better now. She got all feverish with it. It all swelled up, but Bea and Marouska made a tonne of poultices between them. So, yeah it took about a week. During that time I heard Keelie telling Esther all about when she and Elf and her sisters were traveling here and all the Enhanced Ones she killed. I can never tell with Keelie whether she’s making it up or not. None of her siblings ever correct her.

EXTRACT FIVE

Finn asked me today if I was going to convert to the Enhanced what I’d want my first augmenter to be. He said he’d want to have either Superiority or Immense Happiness. I’m not even sure those are real augmenters.

Then Sajo overheard and went mad at him. Glad I didn’t have to answer the question out loud. I think I’d want better memory. Be able to remember all this stuff, especially the circuit board diagrams. Isn’t that ironic that the augmenters I’d take would give me the qualities Rahn insists I need to naturally have to “successfully” remain Untamed?

EXTRACT SIX

Rahn found out I’m keeping this journal today. He’s not happy. Made me rip out a load of pages. Mainly all the ones about my family, like what Seven’s first words were and the stories that One and Two would tell me when I was really small. And the pranks they played on me.

Rahn says it’s too dangerous to write stuff down. Was furious when he found I’d taken this journal on the raids too. Said the Enhanced could’ve got it. He called me a “scrawny brat”. That made Keelie laugh. Oh and Mila then kept calling everyone a “scrawny brat” for hours. Keelie was trying to stop her, until she called Rahn it, then she just laughed some more.

He also ripped out clean pages too. Most of what was left. There’s barely any pages left now, and most of my work and writings have gone. So mad because I finally finished that radio work and had noted down all the frequencies. He said I shouldn’t rely so much on writing stuff down or my diagrams. Said I should know it all off by heart. Said successful Untamed make sure they know stuff.

I fu hate Rahn. (Nearly swore there, Mum—I know you normally have a little look at my entries when I ask you to look up some technical note that I’ve made in here. So don’t worry. I listened to what you said. Also, tell Five not to read through my journal! She’s just being nosy. Not that there’ll be many entries after this one.)

New Release: All Roads Lead To Terror by Richard Schiver

From the author of White Walker comes horror author Richard Schiver's latest novel All Roads Lead to Terror, Available TODAY!

The horrors of the past meet the brutality of the present.

Four boys strengthen the bonds of their friendship, while taking their first hesitant steps into adulthood, as they face the brutality of an old, new world. They will be tested at every step in their journey, as they travel through a blasted land where the only hope is for a swift death followed by an endless sleep. Survival lay in the firepower they carried, coupled with their willingness to use it, and their ability to trust each other with their own lives.

The world has become a wild place filled with wild things, and into this new reality each of them had been born. Coming of age at the end of days, where savagery was the norm, and man's inhumanity to man was on daily display. Where the only law was the firepower one carried and the only hope was for a swift death followed by an endless sleep.

Meat was born at the height of the Zombie apocalypse, upon his birth his mother took one look at him and pronounced him meat. He grew up in a reality where they were all nothing more than walking bags of meat, so in his mind the name fit perfectly.

Window, his best friend, is very quiet, and ever watchful with a quick hand. To him friendship was the most important thing in the world. His family had perished in the ruthless times after the awakening and his temperament had been forged in the fire that took them from him. His friends were all he had left so he watched over them with a jealously protective nature strengthened by that sense of invulnerability all boys his age embraced. Further backed up by a quick hand with the .44 he'd used to kill the men who had raped his mother.

The remaining members of this quartet are Einstein who had been born within the compound at Bremo Bluff after the apocalypse. Having spent his life behind the fence he had no first hand knowledge of how brutal the world has become. As his name implies he's the smartest in the group, as well the most innocent. While that innocence helps to soften the ruthlessness of the other three, it will serve to drive a wedge into their friendship. On this trip he will discover just how terrifying the world beyond the fence has become.

The final member is Billie-Bob, one half of a set of twins who appeared outside the fence several years earlier. Your typical class clown whose mouth runs a mile a minute, if he isn't sharing overused jokes about Zombies, he's whispering the passages from a book his mother used to read to him when he was younger, a chant that provides him with a degree of comfort. Billie-Bob is unique in that at the tender age of eleven he has proven himself to be a natural born sniper with a willingness to use his special talent to protect his friends.

The trail they follow leads them East, into the Dreadlands, from which those who had dared venture in the past never returned. There are places where the fabric of reality is at its thinnest. Where nightmare creatures roam the shadowy corners of a well lit world. Existing at the edge of man consciousness, an indistinct blur briefly glimpsed in our peripheral vision. Their presence felt on a primitive level that reached our consciousness as a faint whisper in the night. Their touch the soft caress of chilled fingers dancing along the spine like the half remembered terrors lurking within the childhood memories of every person who had ever feared the night.

In Richmond they will be confronted by a savage cult of children who worship a creature of the night. A nightmare being that feasted upon the fear of its victims, delving into their innermost secrets, revealing half forgotten terrors that lay like a rotting carcass at the heart of their souls. For these creatures, that were once considered nightmare imaginings, are now awake in a world where the population that once served as their food source has been reduced.

       Awake and very, very, hungry.
