"What I'm Reading" Wednesday #101

This "WIR"-Wednesday I'm reading a book you probably heard me mention way back in July. It's an ARC I need to finish and form a review for by next week so I better finish soon. This "WIR"- Wednesday I'm reading...

Ever the Brave (A Clash of the Kingdoms #2) by Erin Summerill
Blurb:
Ever the Divided. Ever the Feared. Ever the Brave.

After saving King Aodren with her newfound Channeler powers, Britta only wants to live a peaceful life in her childhood home. Unfortunately, saving the King has created a tether between them she cannot sever, no matter how much she'd like to, and now he's insisting on making her a noble lady. And there are those who want to use Britta’s power for evil designs. If Britta cannot find a way to harness her new magical ability, her life—as well as her country—may be lost.

The stakes are higher than ever in the sequel to Ever the Hunted, as Britta struggles to protect her kingdom and her heart.

What I Think So Far:
I started reading this book back in July but put it down because I wasn't liking it as much as the first book. I'll save most of my comments and thoughts for the review, but I can say that I think I can push through to the end, and although the books is okay it's not as amazing to me as Ever the Hunted. Hello unpopular opinion.

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books On My Dec-Jan TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books On My December-Early January TBR

This week's TTT, not to be confused with my upcoming winter release recommendations, is all about the books I want to read in December and early January. Some of these books are backlist, some are ARCs, and some are brand new releases...

Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
I'll be getting an ARC of this sometime before the release date to review for my blog before I send it on to the next person!

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
I won an ARC of The Hazel Wood on Goodreads and I'm excited to read this one! It sounds interesting.
By A Charm and A Curse by Jaime Questell
I was approved for an eARC of By A Curse & A Charm. I love the cover and I'm eager to dive into this one. (But I read my ARCs in order of release date.)
Furyborn by Claire Legrand
My Netgalley wish was granted and Sourcebooks Fire approved me for this amazing sounding book! And with this book I'll wrap up my outstanding ARC obligations (for now).
Renegades by Marissa Meyer
Back to pleasure reading for me! This is the top of my TBR books for fun!

The Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins
Goodness, this book has been on my TBR list for too long! After finishing Undone I *NEED* more amazing Wendy Higgins!
Given to the Sea by Mindy McGinnis
Another book I've had sitting around since summer that I can't wait to read!
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Book: PREORDERED! Can't wait for this book to release!
Hunted by Meagan Spooner
Before this book came out I had it confused with Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill. I think it's a Beauty and the Beast reimagining. We'll see whether I like it or not. I love the cover though!
The Heir by Keira Cass
I didn't like books two or three very much, but I'm eager to jump back in for the next generation of The Selection!
What books do you want to tackle in the next few months? How about over the winter? Let me know in the comments or drop me a link to your answers!
As always, happy reading Bookdragons!

Man Crush Monday: Book Boyfriend Edition #3

This MCM I couldn't decide between two book boyfriends both from one book...

Man Crush Monday: Book Boyfriend Edition #3
Rylen Fite and Jacob "Tater" Tate

(I used the orignal covers for MCM visual idea purposes)

Books Rylen and Tater Appear In:
- Unknown by Wendy Higgins
- Unrest by Wendy Higgins
- Undone by Wendy Higgins

Why I'm Crushing:
I was crushing on Rylen alongside Amber all the way back in book one, where as my crush on Tater grew throughout the books. I watched him go from just Amber's brother to a guy struggling to cope with the horrible things he'd seen yet still being strong and resilient throughout it all, to a man trying to fight the feelings he has for his sister's best friend - especially in the face of a terrible situation. Meanwhile, Rylen I loved as the type of male character that's oblivious to the fact that the girl he likes has feelings for him too, to a man that's grieving yet can't deny the attraction between himself and Amber, to a true hero to swoon over. Both these characters are fantastic - but if I'm completely honest I swooned a little for most of the guys in the Unknown Trilogy: Texas Harry, New York Josh, Devon, Matt, even Sean and Senator Navis.

Book 3 of the Unknown Trilogy, UNDONE comes out December 5th!

#SundayBlogShare: How My Perfectly Organized TBR Reading Schedule Got Screwed Up

Every month I set out a list of books I want to read by the end of the month. Sometimes I stick to the list, sometimes some of the books end up in the DNF pile, some months I deviate from the schedule altogether, and some months I get surprises.

This was my TBR List for November:
- Glitter by Aprilynne Pike ✅

- Legacy by Cayla Kluver (DNF)

- Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff ✅

- The Last Harvest by Kim Liggett (Returned to Library Without Reading)

- Recreated by Colleen Houck (Returned to Library Without Reading)

- The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics (Returned to Library Without Reading)

- Unearthed After Sunset by Lauryn April (Haven't gotten to)

- Legacy by Jesikah Sundin (Haven't gotten to)

So, as you can see I didn't read most of the books I intended to. So how did I get so off-track? Well I tried to flip through some of the books that I got from the library: Legacy, The Last Harvest, Recreated, and The Ravenous but none of them really grabbed me. Then I did a proofing of my print ARC of CurseBreaker, taking my time to hopefully catch any last mistakes and see if there were any changes I wanted to make.

I also got approved for two e-ARCs that I was not expecting:

Coming May 2018

Coming Feb. 2018

But I couldn't read these right away because I was having trouble with my eyes and needed to get new glasses. Long story short, I got new glasses about a week ago and was able to use my Kindle again but then I found out I got picked for an eARC for the blog tour of...

Which became a priority since it's coming out on December 5th and I'm just finishing it now.

Speaking of December 5th, I remembered that Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill is coming out the same day and I left off at page 66 so I have to get on that PRONTO.

And to top it off, I was lucky enough to win a copy of The Hazel Wood on Goodreads which comes out the end of January!

So pretty soon, my clean, well-structured TBR schedule became more of one of those conversations where you start on one topic and twenty minutes of rambling later you've off-shot to one hundred other subjects and you have no idea how you got talking about socks when you started off talking about the new season of Stranger Things. Does anyone else have those kind of moments? Or is it just me?
Do you plan out your reading schedule every month? How well do you stick to it? Let me know!

My Review:
Six Little Secrets is The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. Gather six teenagers from different social groups in one room for a Saturday detention who have seemingly nothing in common, yet each is hiding something. Insert a mysterious voice over the PA system when the detention monitor leaves the room who tells them they are all there for a reason - because of the things they're hiding (broadcast in the style of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None or Ten by Gretchen McNeil) and wait for the ensuing mayhem.

Each one is given a task and should they refuse or fail the task there will be consequences. At first, they blow it off as a prank - until their unseen provocateur delivers the first consequence. Realizing it isn't a joke the six band together to complete their tasks even as the tasks and consequences become more serious. Why have these six been selected? What did they ever do to their attacker? Who is the person calling the shots and why?

Either way, these six will be bound together by this day forever.

At first, I didn't think I would like this book. I could identify it right away as being like The Breakfast Club and I was hoping there'd be some murder or something in this book (there was, just not in the way I expected).

This book was fast-paced and relatively short so I easily found myself getting engrossed in the story and by the end, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. I genuinely did not know who the person behind it all was until it came out at the end and I was interested in finding out all of the character's secrets - although some of them were just kind of "meh" secrets. And even the person targeting them's motive seems a little shaky. These six inadvertently caused the event that set the instigator off but why did that person choose to get revenge in this way? Sure, the cops probably wouldn't have gone after the six for the event that was the catalyst but surely all of these secrets (at least the ones that were criminal) could have been turned over to the police.

Overall, I liked this book much more than I expected to and found the ending satisfying which is the important part. I was emotionally invested in the characters enough that I wanted to see what happened to them and the plot was consistent and kept me going. Would I read this book again? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend or another reader? Also yes. It was an enjoyable read and it's perfect for someone looking for a quick thriller.

My Rating:
🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2
4.5 of 5 Stars!

"What I'm Reading" Wednesday #100

It's my 100th WIR-Wednesday Post! Whooo! With the arrival of my new glasses I'm finally able to read books on my Kindle again without murdering my eyes so this week I'm reading...

Undone (Unknown Trilogy #3) by Wendy Higgins
Blurb:
USA Today and New York Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins, brings you the gripping, sensual conclusion to her apocalyptic trilogy.

Amber Tate never dreamed their heart-wrenching escape from the enemy’s attack would lead them to the most beautiful place she’s ever seen, marred by one ugly fact; it’s under enemy control. Like everywhere else in the world, Elmendorf military base in Alaska has been captured, and it’s time to take it back—all of it—one base, one city at a time. After losing so much, Amber clings to the only precious person she has left, and vows to sacrifice everything to help save the Earth.

Remy Haines is a lover, not a fighter, so when she finds herself in enemy territory, expected to feign allegiance while gathering intel for the rebel cause, she’s never been more out of her element. Tensions only increase when her feelings for Jacob “Tater” Tate won’t go away, and the enemy’s leader takes an interest in her. She’s torn between what her heart wants, and what she knows she should do. As for what her body needs…well, it’s always had a mind of its own.

Why I Requested This Book | What I Think So Far:
I requested to read and review this book from InkSlingerPR because I couldn't get enough of the first two books. I don't normally like this genre, but I love Wendy Higgins's writing so much that I'm sure she could write any genre and I would love it! Undone is so, so good so far. I wasn't sure I would like alternating between Amber and Remy's perspectives but now I love seeing into Remy's mind. I don't want to put this book down and I can't wait to see how it all comes together in the end!
