It's March, the Winter season is finally coming to a close (hopefully), Spring is coming and with it warmer days, sunny afternoons, and colorful spring flowers. Not to mention some of the most anticipated books of the year... Here are 12 Upcoming Spring Releases you'll want to check out!
Spring into a good book with these 12 upcoming releases:
1. Traitor to the Throne (Rebel of the Sands #2) by Alwyn Hamilton
Traitor to the Throne (Rebel of the Sands #2) Alwyn Hamilton March 7, 2017 YA Fantasy |
Blurb:
Mere months ago, gunslinger Amani al'Hiza fled her dead-end hometown on the back of a mythical horse with the mysterious foreigner Jin, seeking only her own freedom. Now she's fighting to liberate the entire desert nation of Miraji from a bloodthirsty sultan who slew his own father to capture the throne.
When Amani finds herself thrust into the epicenter of the regime—the Sultan's palace—she's determined to bring the tyrant down. Desperate to uncover the Sultan's secrets by spying on his court, she tries to forget that Jin disappeared just as she was getting closest to him, and that she's a prisoner of the enemy. But the longer she remains, the more she questions whether the Sultan is really the villain she's been told he is, and who’s the real traitor to her sun-bleached, magic-filled homeland.
Forget everything you thought you knew about Miraji, about the rebellion, about djinni and Jin and the Blue-Eyed Bandit. In Traitor to the Throne, the only certainty is that everything will change.
Why I Want to Read This Book:
I loved Rebel of the Sands and I'm eager to see what's going to happen in Traitor to the Throne. Is it possible that Amani has sided with the wrong side? Will she get together with Jin? I think what I like best about this series is that thing I thought I wouldn't like; it's like a mash up of the Middle East and the Wild West and I'm crazy about this series!

2. The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
The Bone Witch Rin Chupeco March 7, 2017 YA Fantasy |
Blurb:
Let me be clear: I never intended to raise my brother from his grave, though he may claim otherwise. If there’s anything I’ve learned from him in the years since, it’s that the dead hide truths as well as the living.
When Tea accidentally resurrects her brother from the dead, she learns she is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy means that she’s a bone witch, a title that makes her feared and ostracized by her community. But Tea finds solace and guidance with an older, wiser bone witch, who takes Tea and her brother to another land for training.
In her new home, Tea puts all her energy into becoming an asha—one who can wield elemental magic. But dark forces are approaching quickly, and in the face of danger, Tea will have to overcome her obstacles…and make a powerful choice.
Why You'll Want To Read This Book:
Think of Memoirs of a Geisha where the Geishas can seriously kick ass and are dressed to kill. I read an ARC of this book last summer and fell in love. I loved the world of The Bone Witch, from the clothing to the kingdoms and customs to trying to unravel exactly what Tea did that made her so reviled. This is a fantasy novel you do not want to miss!

3. The Great Pursuit (Eurona Duology #2) by Wendy Higgins
The Great Hunt (Eurona Duology #2) Wendy Higgins March 7, 2017 YA High Fantasy |
Blurb:
One hunt has ended, but the pursuit for love and justice continues.
The kingdom of Lochlanach has traded the great beast that once terrorized the realm of Eurona for something far more dangerous: the ire of powerful Lashed woman Rosaria Rocato. Rosaria demands that Eurona overturn the laws prohibiting magic, or an innocent will be killed each day.
Despite the king’s resistance, Princess Aerity believes they must make peace with the Lashed, and though she’s accepted a betrothal to the man who took down the beast, she cannot help thinking about Paxton, the Lashed man who stole her heart and disappeared.
Aerity soon discovers that Paxton has joined Rosaria’s army in the war against her family. Though her feelings for him are still strong, her duty to her kingdom and her family is stronger—especially when her parents are kidnapped and she has to step up to the throne and once again put aside what’s best for her in order to do what’s best for her people. Paxton and Princess Aerity must fight to see what is more powerful: their love or the impending war between the magical Lashed and the non-magic humans.
Why I Want to Read This Book:
I am dying to see how the duology will end and whether Aerity and Paxton will end up together! I fell in love with The Great Hunt last year and it is actually the book that made me fall in love with high fantasy. I've also kind of paired up some of the lesser characters in my mind so I'm eager to see if any of my 'ships actually sail.

4. Hunted by Meagan Spooner
Hunted Meagan Spooner March 14, 2017 YA Fantasy Retelling |
Blurb:
Beauty knows the Beast's forest in her bones--and in her blood.
Though Yeva grew up with the city's highest aristocrats, far from her father's old lodge, she knows that the forest holds secrets and that her father is the only hunter who's ever come close to discovering them.
So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there's no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas...or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva's father's misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he'd been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance.
Deaf to her sisters' protests, Yeva hunts this strange Beast back into his own territory--a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of creatures that Yeva's only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty, or the Beast?
Why I Want To Read This Book:
I love retellings and I first found out about this one while I was reading Ever the Hunted a few months back (I think I mixed the titles up or something) and it sounds fantastic. Meet the deadly Beauty the same week that Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast hits theaters!

8. Burntown by Jennifer McMahon
Burntown Jennifer McMahon April 25, 2017 Mystery, Thriller, & Suspense |
Blurb:
Ashford, Vermont, might look like your typical sleepy New England college town, but to the shadowy residents who live among the remains of its abandoned mills and factories, it’s known as “Burntown.”
Eva Sandeski, known as “Necco” on the street, has been a part of this underworld for years, ever since the night her father Miles drowned in a flood that left her and her mother Lily homeless. A respected professor, Miles was also an inventor of fantastic machines, including one so secret that the plans were said to have been stolen from Thomas Edison’s workshop. According to Lily, it’s this machine that got Miles murdered.
Necco has always written off this claim as the fevered imaginings of a woman consumed by grief. But when Lily dies under mysterious circumstances, and Necco’s boyfriend is murdered, she’s convinced her mother was telling the truth. Now, on the run from the man called “Snake Eyes,” Necco must rely on other Burntown outsiders to survive.
There are the “fire eaters,” mystical women living off the grid in a campsite on the river’s edge, practicing a kind of soothsaying inspired by powerful herbs called “the devil’s snuff”; there’s Theo, a high school senior who is scrambling to repay the money she owes a dangerous man; and then there’s Pru, the cafeteria lady with a secret life.
As the lives of these misfits intersect, and as the killer from the Sandeski family’s past draws ever closer, a story of edge-of-your-seat suspense begins to unfurl with classic Jennifer McMahon twists and surprises.
Why I Want to Read This Book:
I love Jennifer McMahon's creepy storytelling and this one sounds particularly good.
