Book Review: LIKE NEVER AND ALWAYS by Ann Aguirre

Like Never and Always by Ann Aguirre
Blurb:
On a hot summer night, a screech of brakes and shattering glass changes two lives forever.

Liv wakes in the hospital, confused when they call her Morgan. She assumes it’s a case of mistaken identity, yet when the bandages come off, it’s not her face in the mirror anymore. It’s her best friend Morgan’s.

Morgan always seemed to have the perfect life, yet Liv must navigate endlessly disturbing secrets of the criminal and murderous variety—and a romance that feels like a betrayal. Torn between the boy she loved as Liv and the boy she’s grown to love as Morgan, Liv still has to survive Morgan’s last request.

My Review:
Like Never and Always was my most anticipated book of July after reading the first few chapters from Bookish and being unable to stop reading.

When I got my copy I dove in where the online excerpts had left over and became engrossed in the story. I'm pretty sure I could have read this book in one night if I didn't have to get up early the next morning.

Like Never and Always is a quick-moving book that I can't quite categorize, it's sci-fi to an extent, mystery, contemporary romance, coming of age... but whatever you want to call it, I really loved it.

I really liked Liv's character arc from denial when she wakes up as Morgan, to trying to live up to her friend's seemingly perfect life as she tries to unravel Morgan's secrets, to her conflicting feelings for Nathan and Clay, and finally how she comes to accept that this is her new reality.

While I hated Nathan at times and understood him at others, I really loved Clay and can understand his struggle with wanting to be with "Morgan" after finding out the truth yet denying himself because he's so used to yielding everything to Nathan.

Overall, if you like books where a friend is left behind to discover their best friend's secrets after a tragedy and male characters that are misunderstood and oh-so-sexy Like Never And Always is a great read!

My Rating:
