Two years before Out of Darkness, eighteen-year-old Finn Madigan is your average teenage guy. He has friends, cuts an obscene amount of class, and has hooked up with nearly every girl in the senior class. But Finn has a secret - he's an Elemental, a person capable of creating bursts of fire and spouts of water from thin air.

Finn just wants to bide his time in his hometown, Ishpeming, Michigan, until he graduates and can put as much distance between himself and the town, his parents, and his perfect brother as possible.

Then he meets a green-haired beauty named Arianthe and everything changes. Finally, Finn has someone who understands what he's going through and before he knows it he's falling in love.

But like William Shakespeare said, the course of true love never did run smooth. Can Finn hang on to Arianthe? Or will his brother Keiran steal her away?

About the Author (me)
Taylor Fenner grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. She's been an avid reader with a vivid imagination since she was very young. Most of her childhood can be described as having her nose stuck in one book or another. She's a strong believer in ghosts and the paranormal, which led to her interest in writing paranormal romance. Since then she has branched out into Urban Fantasy, High Fantasy, and Fairy Tale Retelling

An admitted workaholic, when not working on a novel Taylor spends most of her time blogging about books, taking photos for her bookstagram account, binge watching her favorite shows, and listening to music that's sure to ruin her hearing eventually.

Taylor still currently lives in Wisconsin, not far from where her debut novel The Haunting Love is set. Taylor is the author of The Haunting Love, Finding Elizabeth, Out of Darkness (Eternals Trilogy #1), Into the Light (Eternals Trilogy #2), Through the Fog (Eternals Trilogy #3), Eternal Fire: An Eternals Trilogy Novelette, and her upcoming releases, YA High Fantasy Fairy Tale Retelling, CurseBreaker and her New Adult debut, Headless, a contemporary reimagining of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

"What I'm Reading" Wednesday #74

This "WIR"-WEDNESDAY I'm not doing too much pleasure reading. That's not true, I'm enjoying what I'm reading but in truth I'm doing a final proofing of Through the Fog now that my editor has finished with it...

How the proofing is going:
So far I'm just dealing with a few formatting issues which I will correct upon finishing reading but this is one of my favorite of my novels. This is actually the first time I've read it all the way through at once and if I as the writer am hooked, I know you will be too!

I'm also still reading...

A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOTAR Series #3) by Sarah J. Mass
Blurb:

Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.

What I Think So Far:
***Spoiler Free***
I was seriously excited for this book but so far it's not exactly what I was expecting. I can't even say why but it's kind of dragging for me. You know how sometimes you see a preview for a movie and think it sounds good but then they start really pushing it marketingwise then you see it and it isn't as good as you hoped? That's kind of ACOWAR for me.

INTO THE LIGHT RELEASE DAY & A Note About the Book

It's finally here! INTO THE LIGHT is available worldwide today! Thank you to everyone that has preordered a copy of INTO THE LIGHT and everyone that grabbed a copy today! I hope you love it as much as you loved OUT OF DARKNESS.

Before I get to where you can buy INTO THE LIGHT if you haven't already gotten a copy I'd like to share a special note with you about how different it was for me to write INTO THE LIGHT compared to OUT OF DARKNESS...

Hey, Readers!
Today is the release date of what I think of as probably the most emotional book I've written to date. What I mean by that is out of all the books I've written so far, this one I had to reach inside myself and let myself bleed, so to speak. I'm talking about two specific sections of INTO THE LIGHT.

Both scenes (without spoiling anything) are a peek into two of the main characters backgrounds, and I wanted to show that though the dark things from their past shaped them into who they are today, there can still be good things on the horizon.

Overall, I think young love like in my first two novels is hopeful and innocent whereas Out of Darkness and its trilogy shows a more mature, jaded love for Lizette where not everything is easy and sometimes happily ever after takes time.

I loved growing with these characters and laying the groundwork for the finale of the Eternals Trilogy, Through the Fog - which will be coming out next summer. As always, I hope you enjoy reading Into the Light as much as I enjoyed writing it!

        Happy Reading!

              XO,

                   Taylor

Into the Light Teaser

Into the Light Blog Series Part III of IV: INTO THE LIGHT Teaser
Since I didn't want to give away who Lizette is going to pick I picked this scene, which is one of my favorites in Into the Light. Lizette and Arianthe are hanging out at a club, but where? Who is Jaxson Harris and why does he buy the girls drinks? Why is Keiran's brother Finn so upset that Arianthe is at the club? For those answers you'll have to wait until December 13th, in the meantime check out the teaser...

We laugh about nothing in particular as we enter the club and weave between the bodies moving to the steady beat of the music. Once we reach the center of the dance floor we throw our hands up and get lost in the rhythm and the sea of people.

It doesn’t take long for Arianthe to get scooped up and spun around by a tanned skinned college guy just on the cusp of making a drunken fool of himself. They dance together for three songs while I give myself over to the music. Sometimes I danced with a partner, sometimes without. As long as they kept their hands where they were supposed to I didn’t mind.

“This is so much fun,” Arianthe yells over the music as we weave our way to the bar.

“I’m glad we could do this,” I agree as we elbow our way to the counter.

“What should we order?” Arianthe asks as she eyes up the bartender; a Cajun guy with long dirty brown dreadlocks.

Glancing at him I shrug, “I doubt he’ll serve us anything other than soda.”

The bartender finishes taking an order from someone at the other end of the bar and mixes two pink cocktails. Sensing our gazes on him he looks up at us and starts carrying over the drinks. “Ladies, these are compliments of the gentleman at the end of the bar.”

“Thank you,” I tell the bartender as Arianthe squeals and peers down the bar to locate our mysterious benefactor. When I follow her gaze I instantly lock eyes with Jaxson Harris. He lifts his glass in greeting and motions for us to join him.

“Ohmigod, he is so hot!” Arianthe exclaims as we walk over to talk to him.

“Hello ladies,” Jaxson lays on the charm as we reach where he’s leaning against the bar. He straightens the jacket of his light pinstripe suit.

“Jaxson,” I reply in greeting. “This is my friend Arianthe. Arianthe, this is Jaxson Harris. He plays for the Saints.”

“That is so cool,” Arianthe gushes. “I love basketball.”

Jaxson winces as I correct Arianthe, “The Saints are a football team.”

“I knew that,” Arianthe says.

Jaxson clears his throat, “so where is your little boyfriend tonight Lizette?”

“At home playing video games with the guys,” I explain as I sip the fruity pink drink Jaxson ordered.

Jaxson sputters his own drink in surprise, “let me get this straight; he let his sexy as hell girlfriend go out alone for a night on the town while he sits at home playing video games with a bunch of stinky guys? What is wrong with that boy?”

I snort, “We just needed a night apart. We’re together all the time otherwise.”

“Well, when you finally decide to give him the boot you know where to find me.” Jaxson winks suggestively.

“That’s okay, I know how your dates typically end up,” I reply tartly.

Jaxson flashes his incisors, “I only bite when asked.”

Beside me, Arianthe giggles mindlessly.

“Arianthe!” A voice calls out sharply. The three of us whip our heads in the direction of the interruption just in time to see Finn barreling his way through the crowded club. “What are you doing in here? You’re much too young to be in a place like this, especially wearing something like that.”

“We’re just having a girl’s night out,” I explain.

“Yeah,” Arianthe glares up at him as she tugs on the hem of the short blue tube dress she’s wearing. “Where is your girlfriend?”

“That’s not your concern,” Finn returns her glare. “I’m taking you two home right now.”

“Oh come on,” Arianthe protests.

I look at Jaxson apologetically, “it is getting late and I have to work tomorrow.”

“No worries. I’ll see you around Lizette. Nice to meet you Arianthe,” Jaxson says, dipping the tip of his black fedora at us.

Finn quickly ushers us out of the club and we walk back to where we parked Wes’s car. Finn angrily grabs the keys out of Arianthe’s hand and insists on driving us home.

I can feel the anger brewing and simmering between them by the time we pull into my driveway.

Yawning I stretch in the back seat. “I’ll let you guys talk. I’m going up to bed, I’m beat.”

“Goodnight Lizette,” Finn manages to mumble through clenched teeth as he fights to keep control of his rage.

I hurry into the house without a backward glance.

INTO THE LIGHT Playlist

Into the Light Blog Series - Part II of IV: the Into the Light Playlist
For the Into the Light Playlist I was all over the place musically. Some of these songs helped me write specific scenes while others remind me of the characters. This is the Into the Light Playlist shown through videos...

1) “It’s Not You" by Halestorm

"I'm in love with somebody... and it's not you!" - This line went well with the opening scene and Lizette's big decision. Who will she pick? Luke? Thierry? Find out soon!

2) “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me” by Keith Urban

I love this song and in Into the Light it inspired a journey for Lizette.

3) “Free” by Zac Brown Band

I listened to this one a lot toward the beginning of Into the Light.

4) “Iko Iko” by The Dixie Cups

I heard this song in a movie once and fell in love with the beat. It doesn't really inspire any scenes, it just gave me an overall feel that was upbeat.

5) “Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran

Luna from the wolf clan pops up in Into the Light and this song comes to mind when I think of her.

6) “Bad Karma” by Ida Maria

"You better believe in voodoo babe
I got a long list of your sins
There's a word you may have heard of called payback
and I'm runnin' out of pins"
Another song I loved in a movie, and it reminds me of Claudette and everyone's perceived idea of Voodoo.

7) “Johnny Cash” by Jason Aldean

This and the next song popped into my head while I was writing a scene featuring two awesome new characters you'll meet in Into the Light.

8) "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis

My grandmother is a huge Elvis fan, and when you read the scene I'm referring to the song will completely make sense.

9) "In Your Room" by Halestorm

"I know everyone you've ever trusted has let you down"
This song is all about letting someone in, letting someone get to know you fully and this song helped me write one of two particularly hard sections of Into the Light.

10) "Private Parts" by Halestorm (feat. James Michael)

"Every time I try to get a little closer
You shut down and the conversation's over
I'm right here, but you leave me in the dark
Show me your private parts.
Give it up baby, what are you afraid of
Love sucks when you don't know what it's made of
We get naked but I can't undress your heart
Show me your private parts, show me your private parts"

On a personal note - this is my favorite song ever. It's all about wanting someone to open up to you even if they don't want to. And that's going to pop up for Lizette and the guy she chooses in Into the Light. P.S. when looking for a video on Youtube, I thought this one was seriously awesome!

11) "I'll Be Seeing You" by Billie Holiday

This song is just so... I can't describe it. Anyway, I listened to this song toward the end of writing Into the Light and in a way it has a double meaning for my characters.

12) "Hello" by Adele

The first time I heard this song I knew that if any song was going to be playing in the background of the final scene in Into the Light this one was going to be it. It's less about the meaning of the song and more of just the overall emotion.

Cajun Cooking with Maurice

INTO THE LIGHT comes out 32 DAYS from now! It's time to kick off the four-part blog series for Into the Light! Part one brings you a guest post by everyone's favorite ghost chef from OUT OF DARKNESS, Maurice!

Cajun Cooking With Maurice

Bonjour! To introduce myself I am Maurice, the world famous ghost chef at Maurice's - New Orleans. I arrived in New Orleans in 1865 a young man of twenty-three and took a job at a restaurant in the Quarter. My delicious food and charismatic charm skyrocketed my reputation and in 1871 I opened my restaurant.

For the next twenty years, Maurice's was the place to be. People came from far and wide to enjoy my blend of french and cajun cooking. Then, in 1892 tragedy struck. I and my entire kitchen crew were brutally murdered by my ambitious sous chef who wanted Maurice's as his own. I won't dwell on that traitor, but I hear that he was executed by public hanging for his crimes.

Alas, his plan to overthrow me backfired. This is New Orleans after all and my crew and I lived on as ghosts. But nobody knew about us and for decades Maurice's lay empty, until one day a woman bought the building to use as a front for her Voodoo shop. This woman was the grandmother of our current owner, Claudette Barbeau. Being a Voodoo priestess she could easily pick up on us wasting our days away in the kitchen and she decided to monopolize on the idea. A restaurant entirely run by a ghostly kitchen crew? She was sitting on a gold mine! I, myself, was skeptical at first but soon people were once again flocking from all over the world to eat my cooking! We've hosted tourists, locals, paranormal investigators, and skeptics that soon become believers after seeing the "empty" kitchen putting out plate after plate of authentique French and Cajun delights.

But enough about me, I'm sure you want to hear about her - Miss Lizette Weatherly. Oh, what a delightful girl! The moment I saw her I knew she was a kindred spirit as Maman would say. And when she shared with me her love of the most scrumptious of all New Orleans desserts, the beignet? Bless my biscuits, this ghost felt as if he had died again and gone to heaven! I knew of course, that I had to teach her everything I knew of French and Cajun cooking. For so long I'd been waiting for a worthy pupil to impart my knowledge upon.

The magic of the restaurant has dimmed slightly since her visit, but I am pleased to hear she and her friends have made it through their struggle against the dark one. Miss Claudette says that if we hold out hope perhaps Miss Lizette will return to us. I will wait on baited breath until I see her again.

Until then I will share with you one of my new concoctions from my tutelage with Lizette...

Cajun Pasta Salad
This recipe started out as Lizette's famous Italian Pasta Salad, but after a little tinkering with the recipe together we created this Cajun Pasta Salad. Serve this pasta salad alongside Cajun burgers, po'boys, finger-licking fried chicken, and just about everything else.

INGREDIENTS:
1-2 lbs. Tri-Color Rotini Pasta, cooked and rinsed
1 can jumbo black olives, drained
1 red or green bell pepper, diced
1 medium red onion, finely chopped or sliced
1 package mozzarella string cheese, cubed
2 Andouille sausages, sliced into coin size bites
1 bottle zesty Italian dressing
Cajun spice, to taste
Grape tomatoes; left whole

DIRECTIONS:
Boil pasta according to the box’s directions. Meanwhile, chop veggies and sausage, cube the cheese, and drain the olives.

Once pasta is cooked, drain the pasta and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process.

Next in a large bowl combine the olives, bell pepper, tomatoes, onions, cubed cheese, and andouille sausage.

Pour in half the bottle of the zesty Italian dressing, then add the pasta and stir.

Pour in the rest of the bottle of the zesty Italian dressing and season with Cajun spice to taste and stir to combine making sure to scrape the bottom of the bowl to make sure everything is well incorporated.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate at least two hours. Stir once more before serving.

VARIATION:
For an added kick substitute pepper jack string cheese in place of mozzarella string cheese.
