Book Review: LEGENDARY by Stephanie Garber

Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber
Blurb:
A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval...the games have only just begun.

My Review:
Welcome one, Welcome all back to the world of Caraval! Re-enter the vivid world Stephanie Garber introduced us to in book Caraval - but remember, it's only a game. Or is it? Julian and Scarlett seemed to have gotten their happy ending at the end of Caraval but Tella owes a debt to someone, but who? Legend? Or someone else? And exactly who is Legend?

While the first game of Caraval was all about finding Tella, this game is all about the mysterious and thought-banished Fates.

I enjoyed this book much more than I enjoyed Caraval. While it took me until halfway through the book to get swept up in Caraval, Legendary grabbed me right away and kept me engaged (even if I guessed at some of the big reveals in this book long before they were unveiled).

Tella makes a fantastic heroine because you realize the girl you thought was a flighty airhead in Caraval has many more layers to her than it first appears and I liked her much more than Scarlett - who changes in this book as well. Scarlett is no longer the reluctant spoil-sport we met in Caraval but a girl armed with a fiery temper and secrets of her own. Most of this book I couldn't help thinking, where is Scarlett anyway? And Dante - *swoon* - I loved Dante, give me more! But even the villains were swoon-worthy in this one... I'm looking at you Jacks.

Overall, if you liked Caraval you will love Legendary so sit back, relax, and hang on for this breathtaking adventure! The ending will leave you craving the next book right now. now. now!
