It's Monday! What Are You Reading? - 30 March 2020

#IMWAYR is a weekly meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.

Hey Bookdragons! My reading slowed down last week but I’m still making progress...

What I Read Last Week:
I'm still working my way through this one but I honestly was in no mood for reading last week. Depression hit me hard with news of the 'Safer at Home' order put into place here in Wisconsin last Tuesday.

Currently Reading

When you don't feel like actually reading... pick out a new audiobook. Which was what I did. Libro.fm had this and a few other books on sale so I indulged and supported my favorite indie bookstore at the same time.

Up Next

This one is still next on my TBR and I'll get to it just as soon as I finish Hideaway.

I'm also going to join in on the Aurora Rising read-along leading up to the release of Aurora Burning. I loved AR in audio and since physical books are taking me forever to get through I'll be re-listening to it along with my friends.

Here are details on the read-along hosted by the authors, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff:

I Can't Wait For... Aurora Burning

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released.

This goes pretty much without saying as AB is one of my most anticipated releases of late spring...

Blurb
Our heroes are back… kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.

First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.

And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.

Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.

When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.

Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes—and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.

What do you think? Have you read Aurora Rising? Will you be checking this one out?

I Love Characters... A Most Unusual Character

I 💚 Characters is a weekly meme created by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer, to show off our favorite characters. Be sure to check out her blog for more info! This week’s topic is ...

A Most Unusual Character
Am I the only one who feels like they don't fit in? This week's theme is all about the characters that are zany, quirky, and definitely don't fit the mold. So I choose...

Zila Madran - Aurora Legion Squad 312's Brain
Described as "A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates" in the blurb, Zila is quiet, aloof, scary smart, and seemingly disinterested in the happenings around her. Her head in the clouds persona usually gives way to spot on theories... when she's not blasting one of her squadmates with her disrupter (her favorite accessory).

We don't get to see a lot of chapters in her perspective in Aurora Rising and those that we do see are fairly short but I get the feeling that she's seen some awful things, secretly has a big heart that she chooses to keep well guarded, and will become a shining star in this trilogy.

Start reading about her in...
